Our SERVICES
Pre-Purchase Survey
When buying a vessel, this is comprehensive Condition and Valuation (C&V) survey that includes operational testing of all systems and equipment, a sea trial, and an inspection in and out of the water. It is used to determine the vessel’s current market value, which may be used to satisfy insurance company and bank loan requirements.
Limited Condition & Valuation
Done specifically for insurance purposes and follows insurance company requirements, either afloat or ashore. May not require a sea trial or operational testing of all equipment and systems.
Appraisal Survey
Used in financial situations such as estate and divorce settlements, vessel donations to charity, and financing.
Damage Survey
Used by insurance companies, vessel owners and other invested parties. Includes determining the nature, cause and extent of damage to a vessel when something goes wrong. Can be used by repair shops and boatyards to determine the cost of repairs.

Pre-Purchase Survey
Investing in a marine vessel is a significant financial commitment. A pre-purchase survey helps you make an informed decision by uncovering any potential problems or safety concerns before finalizing the purchase. It also ensures that you’re getting what you pay for and can negotiate any necessary repairs or adjustments to the sale price.
Limited Condition & Valuation
If you require an LCV survey for your marine vessel, contact a qualified marine surveyor with experience in conducting these specialized inspections. Discuss your specific needs and objectives to ensure that the survey addresses your requirements effectively.
Appraisal Survey
When is an Appraisal Survey Needed?
- Buying or Selling: An appraisal survey provides both buyers and sellers with an accurate assessment of the vessel’s value, helping to facilitate fair transactions.
- Insurance: Insurance companies may require an appraisal survey to determine the appropriate coverage levels and premiums for the vessel.
- Financing: Lenders often require an appraisal survey as part of the loan approval process to ensure that the vessel’s value supports the loan amount.

Damage Survey
When is a Damage Survey Needed?
- Insurance Claims: Following an accident, grounding, fire, or other events covered by insurance, a damage survey helps document the extent of the damage for claims purposes.
- Risk Assessment: Insurers may commission damage surveys to assess the risk associated with insuring a vessel with a history of damage.
- Safety Assurance: Owners may request a damage survey to ensure that repairs are conducted properly and the vessel remains seaworthy.

FAQ
Frequently Asked Questions
1. What is a marine survey, and why do I need one?
A comprehensive marine survey accomplishes a variety of different needs. In the case of a Pre-Purchase Survey, the survey provides the prospective purchaser with a detailed understanding of the vessels systems and any deficiencies which may need to be investigated and resolved before completing the sale. Said deficiencies can cover a range of issues, from fairly simple cosmetic issues to potential structural and mechanical failures which can quickly
add up to thousands of dollars and more in repairs.
Likewise, a Condition and Value Survey establishes a snapshot of the vessel on the day of inspection, providing underwriters and financers with a detailed description of the asset. This can be an invaluable asset in that it establishes a clear and unbiased baseline to be made whole in case of a claim.
2. How often should I get a marine survey for my vessel?
Insurance companies have differing requirements, in general they will ask for an updated survey every two to three years. Whether required or not it’s good practice to have the vessel surveyed every five years to discover minor issues before they become major problems!
3. What does a marine survey typically include?
A survey will include a visual inspection of all accessible vessel systems. As issues are discovered the surveyor may recommend a more thorough inspection, which can sometimes require diagnostic equipment and disassembly of areas of the vessel. As an example, vessel electrical systems are typically inspected for ABYC and USCG compliance; however, damage to the systems in the form of excessive corrosion, electrolysis and/or damaged wiring and
terminals often require further investigation to determine the cause before repairs can be made.
5. How long does a marine survey usually take?
Every survey is unique to the size, age, and condition of the vessel. Survey times can range from a few hours to a full day. In some instances, a second day is required for extended inspection or if the schedule does not allow the vessel to be hauled out for a hull inspection the same day. After the inspection it typically will take 3-5 business days to generate and submit the final report.
